Our New Snack

Alex found 2 cantaloupe rinds and decided to share with her sister. Now I save the rinds after breakfast and stick them in the fridge and give to the girls when it seems like they want a nice cool snack! And they LOVE them-when snack time is over the rinds look like little mice have worked them over.

We've Been Having Fun

so we have been a little delayed in blog updating. In the week of not posting I had a dentist appointment (all clean and beautiful), Kaylee's 12 month check up, Easter celebration, egg hunt, egg dying, wagon rides and #3's 12 week appointment. See we were busy!

I am also monitoring the kids to see if we need to tweak our current daily schedule. So far I think we are doing pretty well keeping to our current schedule, but I figured I would just check since it had been awhile since I re-evaluated. I also got the idea since on Saturday (my family's Easter celebration) the girls decided not to nap. I am pretty sure they were too excited about partying to sleep. At one point they were so tired but still happily going Greg and I decided to stick them in the car and Greg drove them around and somehow they only slept for about 20 minutes. crazy babies :) oh and Kaylee didn't sleep at all in the car...but she was being friendly- plus!

Hey, Rude Doc.

Did you read this disturbing article about supermarket meats?

You'd Think I Never Feed These Kids

So even though Alex sits right in front of me in the shopping cart I somehow I fail to realize she is eating a hole in the cereal box...I should have learned from past experiences- there was a goldfish incident and then another one with a block of cheddar cheese.

When we get home from the store I have some great helpers who like to unpack the groceries (or eat them). And side note, I'm no tree hugger, but I do LOVE the reusable grocery bags! They are such a huge help in cutting back the number of trips from the car which comes in handy when you have little ones and an obscene amount of stairs like I have (yes, I can be lazy...I'm allowed to when I lug 40 lbs of kids around all day, right?!)

Some Baby Was Hungry

That is about all I have to say....you can figure out the rest. :(

Sunny Days

We love a good sunny day! Yesterday we took a walk and then spent more time out on the deck- one of the girls favorite places to hang out. Today while out on the deck Kaylee learned to climb into her chair...and then pick up her sisters bad habit- standing in the chair. Now Kaylee thinks it is funny to be told 'No' so teaching her not to stand in the chair is going to be a little more challenging.

We Painted

We had lots of fun painting again. This time Kaylee seemed a little more interested in the idea. Unfortunately, Alex really gets into painting and then gets into Kaylee's painting. So next time i think I will paint with them individually. I used masking tape to make a number 1 on each painting since it was their 1st birthday painting. Once the paint was dry I was able to pull off the tape and see their final masterpiece!

Gotta Practice

Great Grandma and Great Aunt Sabrina sent over a few surprises for the girls yesterday. Included in the surprises were a dozen plastic Easter eggs which were perfect b/c the girls need to practice hunting for eggs! They liked chasing the egg if I rolled it, but i it just sat there...not that interesting. We have a little work to do- but they like playing with the egg carton :)

2 Toddlers

Little Kaylee decided she would start walking when one Sunday at church she saw sister and their friend walking all around. When we got home later that morning as soon as we put Kaylee down I'm pretty sure she started practicing her walking skills. That was 2 weeks ago- she is a pretty fast learner when she puts her mind to it!
This past week at church Kaylee did enjoy walking around with her sister and friend.

Worst Appointment EVER

So on Monday the girls and I headed to the pediatricians office for Alex's 12 month well baby visit. A little back story (I'll make it quick) I was told at the girls 9 month appointment that the office's books weren't open for the dates I needed for their 12 mo. appointment- so I called back in a week and the first thing the lady on the phone said to me "weren't you just here?" well, yes, yes I was-ugh. I try to schedule my appointment and guess what...my pediatrician was booked for the whole month of April! So I took a chance and scheduled with another dr. (actually 2 doctors b/c for some reason they said it was impossible to schedule back to back appointments...that was a first) ugh. I know I said it would be short but the back story is done, let's move to Monday's story.

10:30 appointment- only 5 min. max from the house. I got there loaded the kids in the stroller and started to push my way up the hill to the office when my dear ol' iPhone dinged and told me that my appointment was not at the office where I was headed but at their Centreville one...awesome. Unload the kids, pack the stroller, buckle back in the kids, and off we go- 5 minutes to get there and it is no less than 10 away. Great.

Get to the appointment, grab the kids, forget the stroller (I'm late, the stroller takes 5 min to get moving) and off we go...and we get to the office building, kid in each hand, a pair of key, a bag and now PULL open doors (hello, Americans With Disabilities Act...were is my handicap button entrance...can't you see I'm clearly handicap today?!) I made it through 2 sets of PULL only doors as well as a turn knob door to the actual office. I check in and sit to wait-phew. Now I have a kid on each leg and the receptionist bring out paperwork for me to sign...really? I gave her a dumbfounded look and she said I could sign it later. thaaaaaanks.

So I get in- Alex gets her weight taken- and the nurse doesn't even try to help me as I carry Alex to the weigh station while trying to get Kaylee to walk with me-umm thanks for the help. So call in the doc. Seems nice at first, a little chatter and nice talk- then she turned on the rudeness- I'll just do a Q&A of the rudeness

Q. What do you do for protein?
A.Beans, avocado, peanut butter, salmon, and eggs
Doc's Response. They aren't getting enough protein. You need to feed them meat. Are you vegetarian?
A. No. I'm not.
Doc's Response. Then feed them meat.

Q. Do they take a bottle?
A. Yes, one in the morning and one at night. Only sippy cups during the day.
Doc's Response. No more bottle. Take it away.

Q. Here are the shots Alex is getting today, MMR, chicken pox, and Hep-A.
A. Well, I would just like to get the MMR shot today. While I'm not opposed to vaccinations I just don't want to give all of them to her today. I feel like it is a lot for her little body to handle.
Doc's Response. It isn't a lot. Kids get these shots all the time. And she will be fine.
(the 'conversation' continued as she argued with my decision to delay the vaccinations)

This last one is my question to the doc..it is a simple one. (and I'm shortening the conversation)
Q. When should the girls start wearing sneaker like shoes?
A. They should wear shoes to protect their feet.
My Response.Right. But when should they wear the sneaker like shoes?
Doc's Response. When they go outsides, they need shoes to protect their feet.
My Response. Well, they have these shoes, these little leather ones. Are they suitable for now? or do they need to get the sneaker like shoes for support?
Doc's Response. Those aren't going to protect their feet outside.

Well, okay- thanks for taking 7 minutes of my life that I'll never get back and not answering my simple question. So that was an abridged version (imagine the pain of actually being there if this was the abridged version) of my trip to the doctor, whom I will never have an appointment with AGAIN. EVER.

Moral of the worst appointment ever: Don't let the doctor bully you. and more importantly only see the doctor(s) that you know, like, and trust. If you need to schedule a well baby visit and your doctor isn't available, it is okay to have your 12 month appointment at 13 months. Good Luck mom's of babies who go to well baby appointments

85* Yet Oh So Cool

After a day at the doctors we came home to nap and then play outside (and use our wagon). While we were hanging out outside our friends came over with some surprise presents! Kaylee was more into opening the gift but eventually Alex got into it..what was inside?! Bathing suits! and a terrycloth cover! Oh so cute :) The bathing suits are just what I wanted...rash guard top and bottoms-gotta keep my babies covered from the sun.
The girls ate tons of graham crackers, which was good because I hadn't been paying to the time and we had been outside for 2 hours and totally missed our normal dinner time! Whoops! The girls were as happy as could be outside but when we came inside the melt down began almost immediately-they wanted their milk and bed ASAP. After a long day followed by an outside adventure the girls were asleep in about 5 minutes!

Bumpin' Up and Down

in our little red wagon- can you hear that Raffi tune in your head now? The girls hear that song all the time especially now since they are proud owners of their very own little red wagon! Thank you Grandma and Grandpa Kruck! Greg and I took the girls for a nice walk in the 70+ weather yesterday and they had a blast. Alex had fun throwing her stuffed 'Sheepy' out of the wagon and Kaylee enjoyed doing the same with her shoe.
In the bottom of the wagon there are 5 holes and we wondered why we would need those...well how knew we would find use for those little holes the first trip out?! One of the girls knocked their sippy cup out of their cup holder (yes, the wagon has cup holders!) and water spilled all over the bottom of the wagon, if it weren't for those silly holes the girls would have had a real fun time splishing and splashing in their make shift baby pool.

Does it look like they like their new ride?!

Zoo Trip

For the girls 1st birthday we decided to go to the zoo! We took them the day before their birthday since the weather was supposed to be perfect- and it was!

We started the day in a little bit of traffic on 66 (shocker!) and then made our way to the metro. Some people were surprised that we would venture on the metro, but the girls were great. Alex had one little hiccup during the trip so I gave her a snack and she was back to being as happy as can be-I think her ears needed to pop since we were so far underground.

When we got to the zoo the girls were so interested in all the children the animals didn't interest them at all. As the day went on the girls got more into the animals. The first animals to excite the girls were the gorillas! Alex tried to climb out of Greg's arms to get to the gorillas- it was pretty funny. Kaylee was also excited and she couldn't stop pointing and 'oohing' at them. The lions were a hit as well for both of them. And Kaylee was amazed with the giant anteater. We had such a good day at the zoo and when it was time to go the girls passed out in their stroller before we exited and didn't make a sound or movement until we were about 3 stops from our metro stop! All in all I think it was a great way to celebrate the girls birthday- we will have to make plans to go again.

Being Dirty

really isn't THAT bad. My dear little Kaylee does not like to get dirty (just like her daddy)- but when we were playing at the park, behind our friends house, she started to play and get a little dirty; it took her a little while to warm up to the dirt on her hands, but she doesn't seem to mind in this picture.
